I could see that I wasn’t expected. That wasn’t hard to imagine, especially since I had texted, instead of calling. Looking for a roommate was harder than I would have anticipated. I’d just moved to the area and I’d been staying on a friend’s couch, but it was time for me to find my own place. Since I couldn’t stand living by myself, it just seemed like the best way to go about it. But then I realized that most of the guys that wanted someone to live with them, were slobs. They wanted to party all night and I just wasn’t down for that anymore. I was getting too old, almost thirty.

I got the idea that it would be easier if I lived with a woman. I had in the past, girlfriends and the like, but there was something that wasn’t good about that set up. We’d fight, break up, and then I was looking for a place to go. I didn’t want that to be an answer, so the next best thing was to find a girl that I could get along with and share expenses and space. It was the best of both worlds, or at least that was how I had it figured out in my head.

The only problem with my grand scheme was the fact that women didn’t want to live with men. They weren’t comfortable with it and I can’t say that I blamed them. I tried a couple of times to go to the woman and state my case. It hadn’t gone well and instead of getting a housemate, the women had seemed afraid of me. I didn’t want to do that again, so I texted Mona. Seeing her face now though, I was starting to question if that was the best way to go about it. I didn’t want her to be freaked out like all of the rest of them.

I had known that she was going to be taken aback when she saw me. I wasn’t the woman that she was expecting, but she wasn’t what I had in my mind either. Mona was such a common name and I thought that it would be attached to an equally common woman. That wasn’t the case. Mona was amazing, beautiful, and even though she had a little bit of paint on the tip of her nose, I found her awe-inspiring. It was like the heavens opened-up for a moment and I saw only her.

It didn’t last very long, but it was definitely a moment that I will never forget. Then, I had to pull it together rather quickly. I was going to ruin this if I didn’t pull it together. I knew what she was thinking and if I didn’t get the lust off of my face, there was no way that I was ever going to convince her that our living arrangement could be platonic. I wasn’t sure if that was true or not. I liked to hope that it was, but I couldn’t be certain.
